Our Journey Through the Years

1959 – A Parish is Born With 1,000 founding families, St. Alphonsus celebrated Mass in neighborhood schools until a church could be built. Groundbreaking took place in June, laying the foundation for a vibrant faith community.

1960 – A Place of Worship The first Mass was joyfully celebrated on Mother’s Day, and by June 20, Archbishop Brady dedicated the new church, marking the beginning of a new chapter.

1961 – Commitment to Education Recognizing the importance of Catholic education, construction on the parish school began in February. By fall, 177 students were welcomed into classrooms, led by the Servants of the Holy Heart of Mary.

1963 – A Home for Our Redemptorists The Redemptorist community found its permanent residence as construction on their new home began in the spring.

1968-1969 – Expanding for a Growing Community As our faith family flourished, so did our need for space. In March 1968, ground was broken for a larger church, which was consecrated on May 25, 1969. The original church was repurposed into a gymnasium for the parish school.

1984-1986 – Honoring Our Devotion The parish proudly celebrated its 25th anniversary, restoring the beloved Mother of Perpetual Help Shrine. Two years later, a new shrine was dedicated, strengthening our devotion to Mary.

1989 – A Commitment to Accessibility Ensuring that all parishioners could fully participate in parish life, significant improvements were made, including elevators, ramps, and accessible restrooms. Additional renovations included new doors, a roof replacement, and resurfacing of the parking lot.

1996-1998 – Growth Through Stewardship The "We Walk in Faith" capital campaign provided for extensive renovations and expansions, including a newly designed worship area, a parish hall with a kitchen, a middle school education wing, music and youth rooms, and a welcoming entrance canopy. In 1998, Archbishop Harry Flynn dedicated the newly completed spaces.

2009-2012 – Milestone Celebrations As the parish celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2009, a revival of the parish Fun Fair brought joy to the community. Three years later, the parish school also marked its 50th anniversary, commemorating decades of Catholic education.

2015-Present – Faithful Leadership In 2015, Fr. Don Willard was installed as Pastor, continuing the tradition of Redemptorist leadership. In 2019, Fr. John Schmidt assumed the role, guiding St. Alphonsus into its next chapter of faith and service.
