Extreme Faith Camp is a powerful combination of fun activities, community building, and spiritual transformation. This focus on Jesus Christ and experience God’s love and mercy and grow deeper in their understanding of Catholic Faith.
Summer 2017, St. Alphonsus Catholic Church participated in Extreme Faith Camp. Extreme Faith Camp is a week-long camp for middle-school youth where we seek to encounter the one, true, and living God. EFC is a multi-parish effort that is led by youth ministers with the help of high-school and adult volunteers. Our week of EFC included more than 140 participants from six parishes—about 50 of which were from St. Alphonsus.Surrounded by the beauty of nature and saturated in the beauty of our rich Catholic Tradition, Extreme Faith Camp proved to be a life-changing experience for many.
We began with a pre-camp leadership retreat on Saturday, June 24th, for the high-school and adults volunteers where together we learned what it means to be a servant leader. By the end of the weekend, all six parishes had melted into one big group of friends. The middle-school students arrived on Monday morning. As the buses arrived, the high-school leaders ran to greet the students with a “welcome tunnel”. The energy and joy of these young people was not in short supply! Camp had indeed begun! The week of camp included various activities: morning bible studies on John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (this year’s theme), small group discussion, recreation rotation, free time, a high-ropes courses, an EFC tradition called “Wacky Olympics”, a dance, evening talks from the youth ministers, small group discussion, various forms of prayer, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and daily Mass. On the last night of camp we gathered for a special time of Adoration and procession of the Blessed Sacrament, where each teen was blessed individually. The whole experience of camp culminated here. Many teens were moved to tears during this powerful and personal encounter with Jesus. God’s love was made evident in their hearts
