I am glad that you are checking out St. Alphonsus School on our website. Let me tell you a little about St. Al’s. We are a Catholic Parish School located in the Northwest suburb of Brooklyn Center.
We offer a Kindergarten through eighth grade program to a culturally and economically diverse student population. Our main goal is to motivate students and get them excited about learning. Our Kindergarten program is an all-day everyday learning experience that has been a model for other programs as they explore their own all-day program. Since the children are in school all day, they have the opportunity to maximize their need for play as well as need to begin an academic program that includes reading, mathematics, science, social studies and religion.
The classes are mostly self-contained in Kindergarten through the fifth grade. Students leave their classrooms to participate in gym class twice per week, music class twice per week, the computer lab once a week, art lab (grades 1 – 5) once per week and the library once per week. Those classes are taught by specialists in each area.
Our middle school students (in grades 6 – 8) rotate from class to class through out the day. The strength of our middle school program is its ability to prepare the students to participate in the various college prep high school programs in this area. Although some of our students complain about doing homework while they are here, they often come back to thank their former teachers for preparing them so well for the rigors of their high school program.
